A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit that sought to disqualify the governorship and deputy governorship candidates of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the November 6 governorship election in Anambra State, Prof. Charles Soludo and Onyeka Ibezim.

The plaintiffs – Adindu Valentine and Egwudike Chukwuebuka – alleged that Soludo and Ibezim provided false information in the affidavit (Form EC9) they submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and should be declared as unqualified to stand for any election.

In the suit, the plaintiffs claimed that Soludo indicated in his Form EC9 that he was contesting for Aguata 2, Anambra Constituency, whereas he was contesting the Anambra governorship seat.

Ibezim was said to have indicated Awka 2, Anambra Constituency, as against the deputy governorship seat he was contesting.

Defendants in the suit were the INEC, APGA, Soludo and Ibezim.

Delivering judgment yesterday, Justice Taiwo Taiwo said it was known to all, including the plaintiffs, that only governorship election was held in Anambra State on November 6, 2021.

He added: “The plaintiffs are alleging false information against the third and fourth defendants for stating their constituencies.

“The question is: how is it lost on the plaintiffs that the third and fourth defendants are not contesting for the governorship and deputy governorship elections in Anambra State?

“Were there other elections holding in Anambra State for which the first defendant (INEC) has called for elections? How have the plaintiffs been misled by the information contained in the affidavit of personal particulars supplied by the third and fourth defendants?”

The judge awarded N2 million cost against the plaintiffs for wasting the court’s time.

Also, Soludo will face candidates of 11 other parties at the Anambra State Election Petitions Tribunal over the outcome of the November 6 poll.

Leading the other 10 political parties is the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Senator Andy Uba.

The tribunal’s Secretary, Surajo Gusau, listed the parties and their candidates who have petitioned the tribunal.

They include Action Democratic Party (ADP) and its candidate, Prince Afam Ume-Ezeoke; Accord (A) and its candidate, Dr. Godwin Maduka; the United Patriots (UP); the Green Party and the Action People’s Party (APP), among others.

The Nation learnt that the three-man tribunal will begin sittings soon in Anambra State.

The Special Adviser to Anambra State Governor on Political Matters, Ifeatu Obi-Okoye, has said APGA was ready for the tribunal.
