“I got married to the love of my life 28 years ago and we have been living in peace. Sometimes there are some challenges but as couples we make things work out the way we want it to.
My husband and I are of different ethnic and religious background. We became friends right from our secondary school days. I liked him because he was intelligent and was a friend to everyone.
I could still remember how I invited him to my house to meet my parents and siblings after our WAEC exams. The day he came, everyone in my family liked him.
I gained admission into the university before him. A year later, he also got admission in the same university. We re-united again and that was how our friendship blossomed into a relationship.
After we graduated, we still kept in touch. There were no mobile phones then. It was via letter writing.
When he asked for my hand in marriage,I was scared that it wasnβt going to work out,but after so many consultations and persistence, it finally came to pass. My husband promised that he would allow me practice my faith, that it wonβt be a barrier and he has kept to his words till date.
God blessed our union with four children and two of them are graduates. When I was about to get married to him, some friends and family members almost made me not to, but today Iβm glad I did.
If Iβm asked to do it again,I will do it a million times over. I found love and peace in the strangest place. Nothing gives me joy more than my family.”-Hajiya Chude.
