Sitting at DMGS roundabout in Onitsha Anambra state is the beautiful Statue of Nnamdi Azikiwe, better known as Zik of Africa, sitting under the Elephant Tusks peculiar to the Igbo culture, and bound by the ring of beads holding them in place.
The smaller and real ones are easily found among the male folks when you attend a traditional event or visit a traditional igbo home. About the beads… That is very popular.

The tusks and beads are cultural symbols revered by the Onitsha people, particularly, the ancient Agbalanze society.

Meanwhile about late Nnamdi Azikiwe,
He was the Governor General of Nigeria from 1960 -1963, Became Ceremonial President from 1963 – 1966, the same time Nigeria became a republic.
